Secret Paths Food Hike

Participants will start with breakfast at one of Cavendish’s newest restaurants: Just Johnny’s. Located west of Cavendish Grove, participants will be able to leave their vehicles and come into the restaurant to enjoy the sounds of a beautiful white baby grand piano. Music by Mike Stratton.

They will introduce the “Muffy” breakfast sandwich created with homemade English muffin bread, omelette eggs, Havarti cheese and your choice of bacon or sausage. Samuel’s will be there as well with a Yogurt and fresh fruit parfait cup with Samuel’s house made granola, and their selection of tea and coffee.

Start your walk through the gentle slopes of Cavendish Grove to the Dunelands Trail and Cavendish Beach. Then proceed to a flat terrain walk to Cavendish corner and on to Montgomery Park where you can sit with Montgomery for a picture. Crossing the street, tiptoe through the Haunted Wood to Green Gables Heritage Place, Lovers Lane, and Balsam Hollow. Here you will be hosted by the Cordial Café for a nutritious blueberry scone and a comfort station stop. You can also refill your water bottle while there. Take a few minutes to take a break and listen to the entertainment provided by the talented Olivia Blacquiere.

From Green Gables walk towards Hammie’s Lane and back through Cavendish Grove, down Clark’s Lane to Mariner’s Cove for lunch. The location for the lunch is being provided by the Ship’s Company restaurant who will serve up a BBQ bacon cheeseburger slider topped with their chipotle BBQ sauce as well as a beet salad with carrots, pickled beets and onions topped with candied pecans, goat cheese and in house maple balsamic dressing. Organic Island greens are from Soleil’s Farms. Chef Allan Williams from Discover Culinary will be serving up a delicious Tomato and Roasted Onion Soup made with Sweet Tomatoes, Roasted Onions, Island Cream, Basil Scented Goat Cheese, and Balsamic. Chef Robert Pendergast will be shucking some oysters for your tasting pleasure. Rounding up the meal will be your chance to try a Canadian staple: the Beaver Tail with either cinnamon sugar or chocolate hazelnut spread. Beer samples provided by the PEI Brewing Company and Red Island Cider will serve up samples of Seasonal Surprise. Walk off the food to get back to your vehicle just a short 400 metres away. Entertainment by David Woodside.

This hike will give you a chance to discover the secret paths in the area and provides a multitude of photo opportunities from the beach to the Montgomery Statue, to the heart sculpture at Mariner’s Cove.
